We Will Never Forget

We will never forget our Christmases when we lived on Third Street in Iuka, MS:

  • We would wake very early in the morning and creep into the living room and shiver with excitement at the cedar Christmas tree all trimmed with icicles, bubble lights, and the old mercury glass ornaments. Every time we smell cedar trees we go right back to those Christmas mornings.
  • We slowly walked in each year and sat in front of the tree without saying a word to take in all that was set before us. We would usually get matching dolls, one with dark hair and one with blonde hair, a bike or a Lionel train set (it blew real smoke!), doctor kit, record player, 3-tier service station, Barbie dolls, and Barbie clothes and accessories. There was always a huge box of fresh fruits, nuts and reusable tin with hard candy and Leo peppermint sticks.
  • In 1960 we got a huge white Christmas. It was beautiful, peaceful and quiet...until Pam went on the front porch in her red cowgirl suit and with two tap gun six shooters to wake up the whole neighborhood.
  • We had a wooden cutout of Santa waving his hand on the front door that our uncle cut and painted for us. We often wonder where that Santa went. Wish we still had him.

Those were the days of innocence and peace - for us, at least. Great memories of Christmas past. It was a wonderful life. We will never forget.

God Bless You!

Merry Christmas,
Kathi Jones and Pam Vandever
